Can't Stop the Serenity
WesterCon 60 is proud to join other Browncoats in hosting a charity screening of Universal's "Serenity", created by Joss Whedon, mastermind behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Fox's short-lived but well-loved TV series Firefly.
In 2006, fans of Firefly and Serenity, collectively called "Browncoats", got together, and organized a series of events on and around June 23rd, which is Joss Whedon's birthday, to benefit Equality Now. Equality Now is an organization that has been fighting to end violence and discrimination against women and girls globally since 1992. Equality Now is a project that is near and dear to Joss' heart, and as his creative endeavors are near and dear to our own, the Browncoats decided to give a little something back. That "little something" amounted to donations that totalled over $60,000.00.
This year, the Browncoats have set a personal goal to beat the donations set in 2006, and are attempting to raise over $100,000.00 for Equality Now. Westercon 60 invites you to join us at the San Mateo Marriott on Monday, July 2nd, and help us assist in reaching that goal.
